Face | Blepharoplasty / Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery or Blepharoplasty can freshen the look of your eyes, excess skin in the upper eyelids and bags in the lower eyelid may be amenable to correction with Blepharoplasty.

Eye lid surgery involves making incisions in the crease of the upper eyelid and along the border (under the eye lashes) of the lower eye lid. Excess skin and fat are removed. Tightening of the lower eye lid may be needed in some cases.

Not all upper eye lids have excess skin and fat and the appearance of tiered, heavy eyes may be due to brow decent. In these cases a Brow lift is indicated to improve the appearance. In some cases a combination of Eyelid surgery and brow lift may produce the best result.

Not all lower eyelids have `bags` (excess skin and fat). In some cases of sunken eyes, fat transfer (Coleman Technique) may give the best results.

However, each individual's anatomy varies. Very few if any are absolutely symmetrical and symmetrical results following surgery can not be guaranteed. The shape of the eyes may change after eyelid surgery. Risks include haematoma (collection of blood), infection, lumpy, red or wide or asymmetrical scars, dog ears, inversion or eversion of lower eyelid, excessive watering or dryness of eyes. There is a very small risk of injury to the eye. Eyelid surgery dose not lift the brow position.

Careful consultation and consideration of information provided at the time will help you make an informed decision. Unrealistic expectations lead to unhappy patients and surgeons.

Eyelid surgery can give the vast majority of patients a very satisfying new look.
