Breast | Reduction | Complications |
Haematoma (collection of blood) requiring return to theatre
Infection (1-4%) – if severe may lead to tissue(skin / breast tissue) loss
Fat necrosis (10%)- resulting in lumps which may or may not resolve.
Hypertrophic or keloid (lumpy) scars
Delayed wound healing (20%)
Dog ears (folds of skin and fat at the end of scars)
Loss of sensation in nipple\breast skin (30%)
Loss (necrosis\death) of nipple areola or skin (risk 1%)
Breast feeding problems
Cancer screening. When you have a mammogram (x-ray of the breast) the doctor should know you have had surgery to the breasts.
DVT and PE – clots in the legs and these clots traveling to the lung.
